Beautiful - Scrapbook Circle August Kit Challenge

Monday, August 31, 2015

Back to school is always a super crazy time for anyone with kids.
I have so many projects and layouts to post, but have been so busy trying to get back into the swing of things I haven't had time.  This page was posted on the Scrapbook Circle Blog last week for a One Item Wonder assignment using this angled paper from Studio Calico.

I used a couple full size 8-1/2 x 11" photos for August and thought this was a perfect place to use it.  I wanted to keep the photo large for the full effect but that the contrasting colors worked great with the grays in the One Item Wonder paper.

I used a couple of other translucent pieces from Pinkfresh Studio, part of the 'Shine On' Add-On and a label for the date.  I used my white gel pen on top of the photo for my journaling. I love embellishment but this photo said it all!

Thanks for checking out the blog today.
Hoping to get back on a more regular posting schedule now!

The Crafter's Workshop - Stenciling Your Own Diecuts

Friday, August 28, 2015

This is the project I shared on The Crafter's Workshop Blog earlier this week!

I love diecuts and using them to layer under photos or cluster together.  I thought this ‘Cabbage Roses’ stencil would be great, fussy cut to make my own diecuts.  I used a couple other stencils to create the background on a piece of vanilla cardstock.LOVE (& hope)_TCW_Aug 2015 final

I used different stencils that are linked below. (the Word Association Template in 2 different sizes)

To begin, I misted the background using the ‘Tiny Circles’ stencil in teal and gold mist.  I used plain white modeling paste with both the 6×6 and 12×12 ‘Word Association’ stencil on top of the misted background.  I wanted to keep it subtle and make sure the photo and the roses were the focus.
I used different shades of pinks and peaches to color the rose petals in Distress Ink and other ink pads. I used the same technique with the green leaf stencil and cut them all out leaving a small white border.

I mounted the vanilla cardstock onto a piece of wood grained patterned paper.  After creating a cluster underneath my photo, I stitched through the border, flowers and other embellishments.  I added some other stickers and splatters to finish it off.LOVE (& hope)_TCW_Aug 2015 (10)

Relaxing - Scrapbook Circle DT Choice August

Friday, August 21, 2015

Earlier this week I shared this quick, fun layout on the Scrapbook Circle Blog.  I used the August ‘Make It Happen’ Main kit and the ‘You Shine’ Add-on.Relaxing_SBC_Aug 2015 border
I had this photo from our last vacation and immediately paired it with the Pinkfresh Studio gold vellum cards and the Studio Calico 6×6 pad.  I love the simple graphics of the vellums and added the gold sequin heart and star glitter sticker from Scrapbook Circle.

I love the movement in the water and that inspired me to watercolor the white cardstock background.  I wanted to switch it up a bit by using yellow & hot pink watercolors and layered a photo cluster on top.  I adhered the base down to another piece of cardstock and grunged it up by sewing the edges and distressing the edges.

Scrapbook Circle Be Real - Love & lotsa layers

Monday, August 17, 2015

Hello there!
Today I am sharing my layout for the 'Be Real' post for Scrapbook Circle.  I used both the main 'Make It Happen' kit and the 'You Shine' Add-on for August.
LOVE_SBC_Aug 2015 final
The 'Be Real' assignment is to use either an Instagram photo, a Project Life page, or both!  I used an Instagram from our last vacation.  The lighting wasn't that great in the original, so I printed it in black and white.  I have been drooling over the gold sequin stickers from Crate Paper and thought they made a beautiful contrast to the photo and color palette.

I used a piece of the Studio Calico 6x6 pad from the Add-on as the photo mat and built up a cluster of embellishments, tags and stickers to the right of the photo.  I cut a strip of paper from a Pinkfresh Studio paper and then layered my pieces on top, grouping like colors together.  I used this polka dot piece of patterned paper from Elle's Studio for my background and then matted it all onto dark charcoal cardstock.  I added lots of stitching for texture and loved the way it turned out!

Blue Bird - Art Journal The Crafter's Workshop { & video }

Saturday, August 15, 2015

Today I wanted to share an art journal spread I did for The Crafter's Workshop and the video of my process.BlueBird_TCW_Aug 2015 Final
You can click below or HERE to go the video on my YouTube Channel.
I used the 3 different stencils that are linked below.
TCW540StripedFlowerCircle TCW504PebbleArtFlyAway
I started by adding lots of yellows, oranges and pinks to my art journal using gelatos and mists.  I used a thick layer of modeling paste with the Striped Flower Stencil.  I went over the stenciled part several times with colored pencil, watercolor crayons and gesso to help add definition and tone down the color.

I added another layer of detail using the Doodling Pebble Art stencil with ink and paint.  The last stencil I used is the 12×12 Fly Away, using a sponge dauber and Archival Ink.

I added color to the bird and a little around the rest of the pages with Distress Inks and a brush.  I finished up the spread with lots of black & white doodles and dots and this stamp I love!
