Tuesday, July 28, 2015

Hello my crafty friends!  Last week on The Crafter's Workshop Blog I am shared an art journal spread and the video of my process.  I used 4 different stencils that are linked below.TCW_i AM covered_July 2015 final 1

I really tried to let myself just enjoy the process of creating and not plan too much ahead.  After creating a background wash using mists and watercolor crayons, I used three circular stencils in a row.  One of them being the Doodling Paint Strokes stencil. The orientation of that stencil reminded me of the guidelines some people show for drawing facial proportions.TCW_i AM covered_July 2015 (5)
I used a combination of gel medium, gesso and modeling paste in white and I love the contrast it created.  I added some black paint to that mix for the numbers and lots of inks on top of another Doodling Template stencil that reminds me of scales.TCW_i AM covered_July 2015 (11)
I hope you found the video inspiring and allow your creative process take you wherever it leads you!

#FRESH SQUEEZED - Scrapbook Circle July Round Up!

Tuesday, July 21, 2015

Hi everyone!  I shared this layout on the Scrapbook Circle Blog Monday for my take in the July Circle Round Up!  I already had printed this photo to use with the July 'You Are My Favorite' kit and the Round Up was so inspiring!

I also used the 'That Was Fun' Add-on which has the most awesome embellishments from the Crate Paper Confetti collection!
Seriously, this Dear Lizzy paper with the gold foil is just gorgeous!!  I decided it should be the main pattern on my background.  I layered it onto the other Dear Lizzy paper listed in the largest circle of the round up.  The third piece of patterned paper is from Pink Paislee to Turn Up The Teal!

Inspired by the Crate Paper tassels, I decided to hang lots of the wood veneers and other embellishments suggested in the two remaining Circles from the Round Up.  I punched holes in the wood veneers that didn't have them and punched a couple tiny tags from the opposite side of the gold foil paper.  I added as many puffy hearts as I could and used lots of stitching to add more texture.

I think of the Round Up as a graphic sketch, suggesting what to use, but leaving the actual layout design to you.  Check it out!  Thanks for stopping by the blog and have an amazing day!

meet me in the sunshine - Scrapbook Circle July 2015

Saturday, July 18, 2015

Hi there!  I did this layout because there were too many fabulous pieces of the July 'You Are My Favorite' kit.  I also used a couple extras like the title foam phrase stickers from the June 'List Keeper' Add-on.
I loved this paper from Dear Lizzy with the clean graphic look of the hearts and the contrasting colors.  They went great with the exclusive Scrapbook Circle prinrabales.  I cut out the one heart that was part of a design and used it as a template to cut more out of all the other printable patterns, especially the black and whites.
I had some tags from watercolor paper already cut with my Silhouette.  I added some color washes and stamped a polkadot stamp in black to tie into the hearts.
I trimmed out some of the phrase banners from the American Crafts Shimelle collection and added lots of stitching.
Like so much else in the July kit, this layout was completely inspired by this one paper with the graphic hearts.  And the teal acrylic stars, also exclusive were so hard for me not to hoard, but I used them as well!

Thanks for stopping by and have an amazing weekend!

you and me {+video} - The Crafter's Workshop July 2015

Tuesday, July 14, 2015

Hi there!  I wanted to share this layout I posted on The Crafter's Workshop Blog yesterday including a start to finish video of my creative process.

I wanted to focus on using small stencils for this layout and do something very simple with 3 main elements; the title, the photo and some embellishment.  You can click on the video below or HERE to take you directly to my YouTube Channel and the video.

This was a fairly fast process for me, only taking about 45 minutes.  I did have a basic idea what I wanted to do and had the colors picked out with the help of my photo, but it still went fairly quickly.  I tend to use stencils on traditional scrapbook layouts with less layers and bulk only to fir into albums, so that helps the time.  If this were an art journal page, I would probably lay on the layers quite thick, therefor making the process, drying time included, longer.

At any rate, I used the 'Doodling Stencil - you and me' misting it with Distress stain for my title.  On the opposite side I used gold embossing paste onto the 'Scribbled Rose' stencil to add some texture and movement.  I placed several layers of 6x6 patterned paper, tracing paper & some gold thread.

I used the 12x12 'Believe Script' stencil to add a single layer of pattern at the bottom edge to anchor the layout.  I wanted to add third color and something a little extra.  I used a 6x6 stencil called 'Mini Life Tidbits' which has several different patterns and some great planner stencils to add a couple points of interest in the top left and bottom right corners.

Adding some black India ink and gold Liquitex ink splatters and a little journaling under the photo finished off my page!  Thanks for stopping by and I hope you check out the video and the other great ideas at The Crafter's Workshop Blog!

FOCUS ON THE HAPPY - Scrapbook Circle July Sketch

Friday, July 10, 2015

Happy Friday everyone!  I am SO glad it is finally the weekend...
The new Scrapbook Circle Sketch Challenge for July is up on the Blog today, just in time for some weekend inspiration!  Here is my take using the July 'You Are My Favorite' kit and 'That Was Fun' Add-on.

Here is Diana's awesome sketch below.

The July kit includes a triangle like stencil which is always a favorite part of a kit to me.  I used it with blue Distress Ink to create a pattern on the white cardstock behind the main cluster of photo and embellishments.

The kit includes colorful phrase stickers from the Shimelle collection and a washi sticker book from Dear Lizzy.
The strips along the left side of the sketch were the perfect place for some of these embellishments.

Scrapbook Circle included several exclusive cork pieces in the main kit and I layered one at the bottom under a wood veneer word from Elle's Studio.  I added some journaling to a lined piece of Crate Paper patterned paper and a couple other stickers.

Thanks for stopping by and checking it out!  Use the sketch yourself for a chance to win a gift credit to the from Scrapbook Circle.  Share it on the original post or on the Scrapbook Circle Facebook page before July 22 to participate!  Have an amazing weekend!

Scrapbook Circle July DT Choice

Tuesday, July 7, 2015

Last week I shared my favorite layout, like the name, made with the July ‘You Are My Favorite’ kit on the Scrapbook Circle Blog.  It has the most amazing collection of papers in the kit.
SOMETHING SIMPLE_SBC_July 2015 border
This was the one of the last pages I made and honestly my mojo was waning, but I started by watercoloring different flowers on this Craft Market paper by Crate Paper.  The paper is just cream with the flowers outlined so I decided to play and see what happened.  I had the Paper Add-On because there are so many amazing patterns in the July kit, so I thought if I didn’t like it I would still have an extra.

The paper actually warped a bit from all the water so I decided to fussy cut out the flowers.  I really couldn’t bear to cut this other paper from Crate with the all the text in rainbow order.  It actually inspired the way everything else came together.  I didn’t want to take away from the colors in the paper so I re-printed this photo in black and white and made it really large.  I aligned all the colored flowers and leaves with the text and added a couple other embellishments, puffy stickers and wood veneers from the ‘That Was Fun’ Add-On.

I really love the way this page turn out!  I didn’t have to cut up that beautiful paper, I got to play with my watercolors and the photo is still the focus.  Sometimes, I think the best way to get out of a crafting slump is just to work thru it and let the products speak to you!  Thanks for stopping by the Blog today and I hope my struggle has helped inspire you.
Have an amazing day!
