Catch! Scrapbook Circle - One Item Wonder

Thursday, January 30, 2014

One of my assignments this month at Scrapbook Circle was to do a OIW (One Item Wonder)
layout using the Candy Buttons from Basic Grey from the January "This Life" kit.

Last year for Valentine's the kids and I cut out hearts and had them throwing them at me
from the floor where they were laying...they couldn't stop giggling long enough for me
to get more than one picture.  But, those are the ones I love!

I punched out some heart from the 6x6 Crate Paper pad that was part of the
January Add-On "Love This" and then stitched them down.
I covered the stitching with the buttons graduating from smallest to largest!

I also used the wood veneer heart cutout that was in the main kit and misted it pink...
It was just too cute to cover up!

You can see the original post on the Scrapbook Circle Blog and even though both
the main kit and add-on kits are sold out, you can get a jump on the new
February Kit "Hello Today", which has lots of new products from Chickaniddy, just released!

miss yOu - ( just for FUN!! )

Monday, January 27, 2014

This was the result of some Friday night crafty time!  Just for me, just because...

And, just for the fun of it, I tried to see how many products from different manufacturer's I could incorporate!  I think I couldn't 13..18 to include stamps and ink!  That has to be a record for me.

And that is the kind of scrapbooking that I find therapeutic...
sifting through stuff, trying to find one piece that is needed to make it all complete.
It could have, or maybe would have been complete without, but not to me.

Thanks for letting my share a little piece of my therapy!
Happy Monday!

NEVER TOO LATE TO mend. DT Choice - Scrapbook Circle January

Saturday, January 25, 2014

Hi everyone!  I am sharing one of my DT Choice LO's and one of my
favorite pages using the January Kit-This Life and the Add On kit-Love This.

Like lots of the other DT members, one of my favorite parts included in the
kit are these Journal Cards from Studio Calico’s Printshop collection.
They encompass some of my favorite colors and the graphics are subtle but powerful on their own.

Even though I usually use lots of layers, I couldn’t bear to cover any of these cards up!
So I used them in blocks around my photo.  It reminded me a little of a quilt and
so I used my sewing machine to add stitching.  I didn't even think about the title
of my page and the sewing being a bit of a pun.  But, I do think a quilt is like building
friendships over your lifetime...some change and have more layers, some simple
and straightforward, but they are a work of art and always tell a story.

The square tile wood veneers in the kit were another favorite.
They are exclusive Scrapbook Circle designs...
I love the size of them and they take mist and paint so well.
The title is actually from a favorite song of mine and my dear friend in the photo.
It only seemed fitting to use the cassette tape patterned paper from Crate Paper.

Have a great weekend!

1.2.3 LITTLE BIRDS - Scrap Our Stash Sketch Challenge

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

The new Sketch/Stash Challenge is on at Scrap Our Stash and this was my DT take for it!

This is the sketch from The ScrapRoom:
and you must add premade/packaged numbers on your layout.

I pretty much followed the sketch except added a few extra layers ;)
You can see the original blog post HERE!

My 2 kids have 2 sweet cousins they adore and they are all old enough to play by themselves,
with less supervision, maybe.  These were taken at Thanksgiving when sadly my oldest niece was
sick and couldn't come...So, there were only Three Little Birds instead of 4.
That song was my kids' first introduction to Bob Marley and they love to sing it!
Since we had to use pre-made numbers as part of the stash, I made the title 1 2 3 Little Birds.

I used so many different manufacturers for this LO and lots of things
from previous Scrapbook Circle kits too!

You can check out the Challenge guidelines and see all the DT inspiration on the blog HERE
and link up your project to play along.  You have until January 29th at 11:59pm (PST)
to be eligible for the prize which is a $20 credit from The ScrapRoom!

Thanks for stopping by and guess what day it is....??  Yup, Hump Day!  Woot! Woot!

BOXING day - Scrapbook Circle January kit

Thursday, January 16, 2014

Another LO using the 'This Life' kit from Scrapbook Circle and the 'Love This' add-on!

There are lots of valentine themed products in this January kit and I can't ever put enough hearts
in my projects, so I love that about it.  There is also a completely different side to it that has
lost of bright fun colors like these yellows, teals and oranges!

These are some funny pictures of a night with old friends and their boys!
When I saw this card from Studio Calico with the mushroom-fun guy on it, I knew these were the photos!
It just so happened that everyone was wearing orange...totally unplanned coincidence!

I gessoed some of the edges and then painted on top of that to make it a bit messy...like boys.
And misted the Scrapbook Circle wood veneers gold.

I thought the speech bubbles would be funny expressing their "thoughts"...
although a few of those thoughts might have slipped past the inner monologue! :)

Have a great day!

finding balance...SCRAPFRIENDS January Color Challenge

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

This is my take on the new Color Challenge at ScrapFriends...
and part of my One Little Word  =  b a l a n c e.

This is the color palette below and is a gorgeous combination of warm tones normally cooler colors.
I love the magenta color, always my favorite color in the box of crayons! :)
Colour Challenge #21
This is about the time of year I do either a self-reflection type page or a LO
documenting my One Little Word.  Balance.  That is my goal for this year.
Which encompasses just about every other little word I had debated, since I am
trying to achieve a balance between all of those other goals, feelings, aspirations...

I started with this Instagram selfie from New Year's morning, no shower,
no make up...here I am!  I love these die cut files that are part of the Scrapbook Circle
January kit that have 5 words listed on a Project Life type card...I wanted to
highlight each word, so I die cut 5 cards and layered glitter paper under a different
word. I also wanted to give the cards so color and depth, so I layered a
stencil on each one and then painted it with watercolor.

I love this fuchsia paper from Studio Calico's Print Shop collection, but it extremely
powerful, so I layered underneath everything.  I used a couple stamps in yellow
and then wrote out my title in India ink.  I need more practice trying to write a script
font with a paint brush, especially at the end of a LO where it could all be ruined,
but I gave it a shot.  I love the contrast it gives all these colors.

I am truly amazing at the array of talent and unique approaches to the challenges every month.
This one is fantastic!  All of them eye catching, guest designers too!

Make sure you go to the ScrapFreinds Blog to check out all the inspiration projects
& to read to rules. Upload your LO to the blog before February 14th for a chance to win!

More on my OLW later but until then, thanks for stopping by and have a creative day!

love...love...love one ANOTHER - Scrapbook Circle January Sketch Challenge

Saturday, January 11, 2014

I couldn't resist using the January 'This One' kit and 'Love This' add-on with the current Scrapbook
Circle sketch Diana Fisher came up.  As usual, it is an awesome sketch to adapt for any layout!

SC-sketch-0114

The sketch actually calls for 3 pictures, but I opted for 2 photos and this one card from Studio Calico.
I had these photographs from one amazing December sunset...and when I saw this paper from Basic Grey with all these beautiful colors I knew I needed to use it with these photos.

I used one of the exclusive stamps that came in the kit as part of my title and
stamped it in a matching green color for a tone-on-tone effect.

I used a couple pieces of the 6x6 pad from Crate Paper and one of the Scrapbook Circle digital cut files
as the photo mats.  I misted the wood veneer arrow tile in this vibrant green Color Shine and then
used the exclusive Scrapbook Circle heart stencil to add another layer in a darker green on top.

You have until January 22nd to play in the Sketch Challenge by posting your
LO to the Scrapbook Circle Facebook page or to the original post...
Go the the Scrapbook Circle Blog for details and to see the other DT members takes on the sketch!

Happy Saturday!

hello new year - Scrap Our Stash Countdown Challenge!

Thursday, January 9, 2014

This is is my LO for the Scrap Our Stash January Challenge...the Countdown Challenge!
How fun is this challenge??  It is especially inspiring if you need a stop yourself from over thinking a project! :)

I also made this the first LO I did with a photo from 2014!

Here's how this challenge works:
Create a layout and you must add….
(5) of one item
(4) of another item
(3) of one more item
(2) of yet another item
AND.....
(1) RUB ON!!!

I knew I wanted to use these gold glitter stickers for the year,
and obviously that would count for my four items...
5 sequins,
4 stickers,
3 pieces of chipboard,
2 mini envelopes
and the one rub-on!

I tucked some hidden journaling into one of the little envelopes to remember a few things about the first New Year's Eve in 9 years that my husband and I spent without kids!

Thanks for stopping by today and make sure to check out the
Scrap Our Stash Blog for the other DT members Countdown projects!

The prize is a $20 gift certificate to The ScrapRoom...

forever...Scrapbook Circle January

Monday, January 6, 2014

This is one of the layouts I did using the Scrapbook Circle January kit 'This One' & 'Love This' add-on!

I loved this patterned paper from Crate Paper with the repeating dates on it.
I toned it down a bit by painting some gesso on it and then watercoloring a wash of pink on top of the gesso.

There are some great digital cut files and printables with this months kit too.
I made this love u. one really big and gave it a light wash with the same watercolor.
I also used lots of the printables tucked here and there and punched out.

The kit also has a really cool stencil of mini hearts...
I used it with some distress ink on vellum and stitched my title to it.
Although this photo is from Christmas morning, the Santa hat still looks festive for Valentine's!

Shawn and I never seem to have anyone taking photos of us unless it IS us...so, lots of selfies to scrap!

Check out the Scrapbook Circle blog for all the fun projects the team came up with this month.
And if you are on a New Year's budget for products, like I am, then you can buy the cut files for $1.50!
They don't have to be just for Valentine's and there are so many creative ways to adapt them to any project!

Thanks for stopping by the blog today!

Scrapbook Circle DT Choice | Memory Coasters

Saturday, January 4, 2014

A few of the DT members at  Scrapbook Circle got to work with some
coasters from Memory Coasters this month!  I always wanted to try these
coasters out and since photos of the grandkids seem to be the best thing to buy
grandparents who have everything else, what perfect timing!
And we have lots of family birthdays in January.
The coasters come in sets of 4 and each coaster is a shallow acrylic box with a top
and bottom that screw together after you fill or decorate them.   They also have
a neat circular indention to help keep a glass or mug in place. The box screw shut
with 4 screws on the back, which are included with the coasters.
They also come with a template inside that was helpful in cutting out the insert pieces.

You can fill them with all kinds of things and there is plenty of room to use
lots of dimensional embellishments as well.  I used the Scrapbook Circle
January kit - This Life and the add-on kit Love This‘ to create a coaster set
for my Mother-In-Law for her birthday, one featuring each grandchild.
I cut up the patterned piece of paper from Pebbles into squares and then
stitched the squares together to give a more quilted feel.  I tried to have a square
in each color to balance it out.  Each coaster has a scalloped punch from paper that
I layered with a smaller white circle and finally a scalloped punched photo on top.
I used dimensional adhesive to pop them up off the coaster and added some of the
Basic Grey washi strips to a couple edges.

I love that this could be an ongoing project that I could add the next round
of kid pictures from Easter or Halloween and change them out seasonally!
Lots of possibilities!

Check out the other DT members Memory Coasters in the Idea Gallery!
Scrapbook Circle will be doing a givaway of a set of these Memory Coasters
later THIS month so be sure to check back.  Thanks for stopping by today!

EXCITING News...Scrapfriends DT Reveal - January Sketch Challenge!

Thursday, January 2, 2014

Happy New Year everyone!
I am so excited, thrilled and thankful to be a part of the 2014 Scrapfriends DT!
It is such a fun challenge blog and they have fantastically inspiring sketches...every month there is one
sketch challenge and one color challenge and DT aside, the contributors are super talented too!

This is my first LO using the January Sketch...

Here is the sketch or you can check out the original post HERE:

I love the style of sketches that are a combination of mixed media and memory keeping!
It is such a fun way to be creative and be expressive too!

I started with layering lots of background stamps and a roller stamp onto my base paper.
Then added watercolor, modeling paste with a stencil from Scrapbook Circle and some India ink.

Then I started layering up everything from already made frames, journaling cards, doilies,
left over pieces from die-cuts, scraps, everything that I thought looked good with the colors and photo.
I wanted to make it pretty girly since that is what the photo was about.

The other DT projects and the Guest Designer's LO's too are really amazing...
Check it out and come participate in the challenge!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
